Qingsha (Shasha) Cheng was born in Chongqing, China. He received his B.Eng. degree and M.Eng. in automation from Chongqing University, Chongqing, China. He received his Ph.D. degree at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, in 2004. Currently he is an associate professor at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen, China

In 1998, he joined the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Peking University, Beijing, China. In 1999, he joined the Simulation Optimization Systems Research Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, McMaster University. He became a postdoctoral fellow in 2004. In 2007, he became a research associate academic and later a research engineer in the Simulation Optimization Systems Research Laboratory (SOS), Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, McMaster University. He also consulted for Bandler Corporation. Dr. Cheng was a sessional lecturer with Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University from 2007 to 2010. In 2014, he joined SUSTech as an assistant professor and later a tenured associate professor. He was appointed Adjunct Professor with University of Regina, Canada in 2018. In 2019, he was appointed as an associate editor of International Journal of Numerical Modelling: Electronic Networks, Devices and Fields.

He was a co-organizer and chair of the Third International Workshop on Surrogate Modeling and Space Mapping for Engineering Optimization (SMSMEO 2012). In 2014, he is a co-organizer and chair of an IEEE International Microwave Symposium (IMS) workshop on Recent Advances in Space Mapping Modeling and Optimization. In 2015, he co-organized and chaired an IMS workshop on EM-Based Tuning Techniques, Computer-Aided Tuning and Tuning Space Mapping. In 2016, he was a session co-chair of IEEE NEMO and an organizer/session chair of IEEE ICCS (OC member). In 2017, he was a session co-organizer and co-chair of IEEE ACES. In 2018, he was a co-organizer and co-chair of IEEE ICCEM and IEEE NEMO(TPC member). In 2019, he served as TPC member of IEEE NEMO conference. In 2020, he was a co-organizer and co-chair of IEEE NEMO special session. In 2021, he was TPC member, session co-organizer and co-chair of IEEE ACES-China.In 2022 and 2023 he was invited as a Senior Professonal for IEEE MTT-S Young Professionals Workshop on Electromagnetic Modeling and Optimization.

Dr. Cheng was one of the original contributors of Space Mapping algorithm. He has years of research experience in space mapping, simulator-based tuning, surrogate modeling, computer-aided design, modeling of microwave circuits and antennas, software design technology and methodologies for microwave CAD. He has publications in refereed journals, conference papers, book chapters, etc. His publications have been cited more than 4500 times as of September 2024 according to Google Scholar. He has been invited to review papers in highly rated international journals such as IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques and IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters.
